The Fabric of Our Society
In researching for my article on environmentally-friendly fabrics, I began the process of learning about the textile industry and quickly discovered that specifying “green” fabrics is a simple way to have a positive impact on any interior design. Indoor air quality and the health of our soil and water are directly affected by the fabrics that we choose to install in our homes and work spaces.
I have included a few of my favorites in this month’s Kim’s Picks, but have only scratched the surface of what is available. I hope that you will check out the manufacturers below and that this will inspire you to specify earth-friendly fabrics and furniture manufacturers like Furnature. Also included is Loop Organic, producers of luxury linens - delicious! Each of these companies have spent countless hours researching and ultimately presenting you with choices that will support healthy spaces and healthy clients.
One other company that I would like to give special mention to is the Green it Group. These super-green gals create customized sustainability programs for manufacturers (or most any business) and help communicate these efforts to the world through creative marketing plans. I often hear from manufacturers that they want to “green-up” their process, but aren’t quite sure how to do this. I recommend the Green it Group as an ingenious way to get on the right track, and FAST!
Enjoy!
